The meadow of gold
Sonamarg is the last great meadow before the Zoji La pass — a wall of glaciers and 5,000-metre peaks rising straight from a golden valley floor. The Thajiwas glacier is a short pony ride from the road, sledge-runners wait on the snowfield even in July, and the Sindh river provides some of Kashmir's best rafting and trout water.
